Following a successful first edition last year, November will see the return of the European Commission’s Vocational Skills Week, featuring conferences, open days, competitions and more.
The aim of the event, taking place in Brussels from 20-24 November, is to demonstrate the power of vocational education and training, and how it can lead to better integration, increased confidence and a more fulfilling career.
Through a series of activities in EU and partner countries in the weeks leading up to the main event, participants can talk to experts about tailored courses, work-based learning, traineeships, apprenticeships and on-the-job training, which combine theory and practice and allow them to unlock their potential.
Activities at last year’s Vocational Skills Week included the EuroSkills competition in Gothenburg, Sweden, in which under-25s competed in practical tasks related to transport and logistics, manufacturing and engineering, construction and building technology, creative arts and fashion, and IT and communications.
And Cedefop, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training, organised an online photography competition. Keep an eye out for more details of this year’s programme.
Learners, parents, companies, business organisations, social partners, education and training providers, professional associations, career advisers, public authorities and society at large are all invited to get involved.
Vocational training opens doors in any number of fields, from science and engineering to healthcare and finance, in both the private and public sectors. It offers opportunities for people of all ages, at any stage of their professional development, and makes them more employable, preparing them for jobs all over the world. Lifelong learning also enhances social inclusion, diversity, and active citizenship.
