The right CV for the right job, thanks to EURES Italy

Working with the University of Teramo, in Italy, EURES Italy offers workshops for students, graduates and the public, teaching them how to create compelling CVs in Italian and English.

Participants learn how to write a CV in both languages, with a focus on the European Europass template, register their CV on the EURES Portal, write a letter of motivation for employers in Italy and abroad, write a spontaneous application, apply for a vacancy on the EURES portal and present themselves at a job interview.

Numerous young jobseekers are reaping the rewards of this project. One of them is Saverio Zappacosta, 24, from Pescara, Italy who is enrolled at the university’s faculty of communication sciences and is spending a year at the University of Wyoming in the United States.

“This seminar was a game-changer for me because it was held right before I left for the US,” he says. “I was able to understand the variations between CVs in different countries and how to best showcase my skills based on the country where I was going and what kind of job I was applying for. Before this seminar, I didn't recognise that some of my skills were unique, and I was able to display them better on my resumé.” Once he arrived in America, he found a job right away.

Another satisfied participant is 22-year-old Mirko Rabottini from Teramo, Italy, who is in the second year of a degree in economics.

“The workshop was essential to creating my curriculum vitae. In particular, I learned a lot about which model to use and how to adapt it to specific applications,” he says. “In the end, I created an infographic CV, as well as the English version of the Europass one, with which I applied for several jobs. I was selected by three of the five agencies I applied to.”

Anna Bongiovanni, a EURES Adviser based in Abruzzo, Italy, leads the cooperation with the University of Teramo. “The collaboration was born in 2011: on 22 November that year we created the first workshop, where we presented advice to students on how to draw up a CV in both languages,” she says.

The event has become a permanent fixture at the university’s two annual Career Days. The next workshop took place on 6 November.

Professor Christian Corsi, Delegate of the Rector of the University of Teramo, is pleased with the collaboration with EURES.

“The seminar is part of our Career Day, through which our graduates and undergraduates are prepared for job interviews,” he says. “The workshop is very helpful in improving students’ knowledge of active research tools. Many students have benefited from this training, and it gives young participants an awareness of the need to monitor the skills and professional profiles required by the job market and so increase their employability.”
