What’s your EURES story?
That’s the question that the #EURES25 competition asked jobseekers from across Europe to answer. Entries could be submitted in the form of a short video or an image accompanied by a summary about their experience, and the prizes included a €500 language course or employability skills training.
Participants were prompted to think about how EURES had helped them to find their dream job, how EURES Advisers had supported them with access to language training and integration into a new country, or how the EURES Job Mobility Portal or European (Online) Job Days had led to unique job opportunities.
The three competition winners were announced during an award ceremony at the EURES 25th Anniversary Event in Brussels on 30 January. The second of these was Edvinas Ulinskas and this is his story.
Name: Edvinas Ulinskas
Nationality: Lithuanian
Entry type: Video
Profile: About a year ago, I was looking for a job. While scrolling through endless numbers of job opportunities, all that I could think about was getting a brand new car [a Mercedes-Benz]. But all I could have afforded at the time was a toy car!
I was lucky to find and get a job offer at a car plant in Finland, so I packed my bags and flew there. It was not easy to relocate, but EURES came and helped. I was granted a supplementary allowance.
After working at the car plant for some time, I became financially secure and could finally get my dream car.
Thank you EURES for helping me achieve my goals!
To find out more about the winning employers – and the other winning jobseekers – keep an eye on the EURES website.A sister competition was launched for employers, which challenged them to submit a photo that represented what freedom of movement meant to them. Vouchers worth €500 were on offer and the three winners were also announced during the award ceremony.
The #EURES25 competition was part of an ongoing campaign to promote and celebrate the 25th anniversary of EURES. Launched in 1994, EURES has grown to include 32 countries and over 1,000 Advisers. To-date, there are over 3 million job opportunities and 15,800 employers registered on the EURES Job Mobility Portal.
Looking forward to the next 25 years of service, the network will set the pace to ensure many potential jobseekers and employers are aware of EURES, what it stands for, and how it can support them in their life journey or in their hiring processes.
