Rationale and aims
Muttersprachlichen Beratung des Österreichische Gewerkschaftsbund (ÖGB) provides mother‑tongue legal consultations to seasonal and other migrant workers with limited German proficiency in sectors such as construction, care, tourism and agriculture. The programme aims to protect labour and social rights, prevent labour exploitation and wage or social dumping. It supports integration into the Austrian labour market and guides workers in their interactions with relevant public institutions.
Support offered
Muttersprachlichen Beratung des Österreichische Gewerkschaftsbund (ÖGB) provides free multilingual labour and social law consultations to migrant and seasonal workers in Austria, delivered in person and remotely. The service offers information and guidance on employment rights, social security, taxation, job search and housing. It also supports workers in understanding and navigating relevant Austrian institutions. The service can help workers find legal representation.
Target groups and eligibility
The service targets foreign citizens working or seeking employment in Austria. It includes seasonal workers, cross-border and transnational mobile workers, intra-EU seasonal workers and posted workers, with a particular focus on construction, care, tourism and agriculture. Legal representation through the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) requires more than six months of union membership; otherwise, users may be referred to the Chamber of Labour.
