From jobseeker to entrepreneur - Youth Guarantee helps Lithuanian woman pursue her dreams

Goda Tokerės has always been clear in her ambition to pursue a career in the creative arts. What hasn’t been so clear was how to gain the skills and knowledge needed to get there.

For as long as she can remember, Goda’s life has been filled with fashion. She started studying clothing and fashion engineering at university, but left feeling the programme didn’t meet her creative needs. ‘I have thought about launching my own brand for a long time, but realised I lacked the necessary knowledge,’ she says.

Following a friend’s advice, she signed up for a seamstress course through the Youth Guarantee scheme. Upon completion, she launched her own brand: Oh My Goda. ‘I now use the knowledge gained through the course on a daily basis,’ adds Goda. ‘Every morning I wake up knowing I have the ability to do this.’

Goda says she is a perfect example of the fantastic opportunities the Youth Guarantee scheme provides young people. ‘I feel proud of myself and confident in what I am doing,’ she adds. ‘As a result, my business is moving forward.’

What is the Youth Guarantee?

The Youth Guarantee offers a new approach to reducing the level of youth unemployment by ensuring that all young people under 25 get a good quality, concrete offer of a job, apprenticeship, traineeship or continuing education. The scheme requires this to be on the table within 4 months of the young person leaving formal education or of becoming unemployed. Frequently asked questions on the Youth Guarantee can be found here.

Séanadh

Tá sé mar aidhm ag na hailt faisnéis a sholáthar d’úsáideoirí na tairsí EURES ar ábhair agus treochtaí reatha agus chun plé agus díospóireacht a spreagadh. Ní gá go léiríonn a n-ábhar dearcadh an Údaráis Eorpaigh Saothair (ELA) nó an Choimisiúin Eorpaigh. Ina theannta sin, ní fhormhuiníonn EURES agus ELA na suíomhanna gréasáin tríú páirtí a luaitear thuas.
