A new educational and vocational guidance service in Brussels provides a one-stop shop for students, jobseekers and workers who are looking to find work or retrain.

New one-stop shop for personal career advice opens in Brussels
Marc Buvé

‘Cité des Métiers – Beroepenpunt’ was officially opened on 23 April 2018 in the presence of numerous high-profile figures, including Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility.

The centre is based on the ground floor of the Astro Tower, the same building where Actiris – the public employment service in Brussels which acts as the EURES Coordination Office for the region – is based, as well as some of the centre’s other partners, such as VDAB (the public employment service in Flanders) and Tracé (via its Leerwinkel service). Cité des Métiers – Beroepenpunt, like Actiris, will provide a bilingual service in both French and Flemish.

The new space covers over a thousand square metres and is entirely dedicated to providing advice and guidance to anyone looking for information on the multiple possibilities available to them in their career, whether it be studying, training, working, starting a business or moving to another country or region.

According to Marc Buvé, who works for Actiris, the aim of the new service is to guide all visitors in the development of a personal ‘project’ for their professional life, adapted to the current working world.

One of its key themes, as Marc explains, is mobility – which includes transregional, transnational or international mobility. Individual advice is offered so that visitors can learn about studying, working or undertaking an internship in another country or region. They are encouraged to ‘dare’ to move and advised on how they can make the most of the experience.

There are also plans for specific training on the use of the EURES Job Mobility Portal and the website of Actiris. There are various books and digital resources available on site and mobility advisers from Actiris – who themselves are members of EURES Staff – are also present in the building at all times.

The centre is very much a joint project, helping it to cover any specific needs of its visitors. The team is made up of advisers from Actiris and Bruxelles Formation, as well as members of VDAB and Tracé. The team also has representatives of the Pôle académique de Bruxelles, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Centre de validation des compétences, the CEFA, Promotion sociale, the EFP, SFPME and Worldskills Belgium.

If you are based in the Brussels region and interested in finding out more about employment, training, study and mobility opportunities, why not visit the centre today? You’ll find Cité des Métiers – Beroepenpunt at Avenue de l’Astronomie 14, just a short walk from Madou metro station. To find out more, visit:
