As part of its bilateral co-operation with other countries, EURES Greece organises small-scale projects in various cities in the form of interview days, collecting CVs and job placement support.
Eleni, who was born and raised in Rhodes, studied tourism, and after completing a placement on reception at a local hotel, she wanted a new experience in the tourist industry in Germany. A visit to the PES, after she saw a notice advertising vacancies in the tourism sector in Germany, led her to EURES, where she met adviser Styliani Stavrou.
The scheduled interview days for the jobs she was interested in had passed, and the process was closed. However, Styliani urged Eleni to send her resume to fellow Greece EURES Adviser Eleni Foulira, who oversaw pre-selecting the CVs for the event.
“I never imagined I would leave the office in Rhodes that morning holding three job offers from Hamburg hotel receptions. The EURES Advisers helped me with information and my CV, and they were beside me at every step,” says Eleni Kritikou.
“As soon as I sent my resume, Eleni Foulira introduced me to Anja Mesch, a EURES Adviser in Hamburg, and after an online video interview, I was given a job just as I had dreamed of. I have to thank and EURES Germany for their flexibility in the process; in less than a month I found myself starting a new journey in my life and gaining valuable experiences.”
“I would call Eleni Kritikou a calm strength,” says Styliani. “Always with a smile, she took all my advice and from the beginning she knew what she wanted. It was important that she spoke German and English fluently, but above all what counted was her wonderful attitude and her maturity, which shone through in a web interview.
“Because she is young, she doesn’t have so much experience, but in front of me there was a woman with such an appetite to learn, to try, to evolve…I wish her a great career!”
